Hi, my name is Paula from the UK. I have worked as a foreign English language teacher for four years – teaching in S. America, Korea, and China. I have enjoyed all my experiences. I am a supportive and friendly teacher. It is difficult for me to learn a second language, and I applaud all students’ efforts in trying to learn a new language – mistakes are the way forward. I enjoy travelling and living in foreign countries. I like learning about different cultures and customs, exploring new areas and of course beaches, which I love. I really like swimming in the ocean. I also appreciate many different types of architecture and design. I enjoy tasting different types of food in the countries that I visit and eating food that the locals eat – as long as it is either fish, beef, chicken or pork. My teaching inspiration is my drama teacher. I undertook a night course in drama for one year in my home country, and the course tutor was kind and supportive of everybody’s efforts – and under her guidance and tutorage, everybody got better at drama. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the UK for a telecommunications company for over 10 years. I worked as a business and technical document writer. The best way to teach English in my opinion is to listen to the student, observe how they are finding the lesson – what is working, and what is not. If something is not working, the teacher can change direction – everybody learns in different ways. I really appreciate it when students talk to me and tell me how they feel, what they want to learn, if they don’t understand something, or want to go at a faster or slower pace. I like my lessons to be fun, relaxed, informative, and interesting.
